Childhood Trauma

Physical abuse, or being deprived food or shelter, is not the only way you can be traumatized as a child.

Complex Trauma can result from constantly feeling that your true self has to be silenced. Your true self is your authentic, spontaneous expression!

If your parent or caregiver fits these descriptions than you could benefit from trauma-informed therapy:

  • highly anxious, critical, volatile, self-loathing, or hovering

  • emotionally unavailable, depressed, or suffering from untreated trauma

  • constantly compares you to others, or thinks your feelings are “too much”

  • uses your achievements to support their own wounded self-esteem

  • has addictive tendencies, like shopping, working, drinking

As children, we have no choice but to internalize the way our parents treat us.

  • Give yourself the gift of an attuned presence if you believe the following:

    • Your worth is based on what you do for others.

    • You believe you’ll never find a healthy relationship.

    • It’s better to not try something if it won’t be perfect.

  • Children need to feel respected, and loved unconditionally.

  • When our basic needs for respect and mirroring are not met, a lack of purpose in one’s life, low self-worth, and a never ending search for validation ensues.
